Prominent ears, which used to be called “bat-ears” can be a significant cause of concern for some children who may be teased at school. In adulthood prominent ears may be embarrassing and can represent a significant cause of self consciousness. The operation of prominent ear correction in children is often undertaken under general anaesthesia but can alternatively be undertaken under local anaesthesia in older children and in adults.
